What quilter doesn't love a spool? I've seen a lot of spool shaped quilt blocks and appliques, but I'd never seen one featuring variegated thread. As they are my favorite threads to quilt with, I wanted to design a variegated spool. As is wont to happen in pattern design, the spool ended up so cute I didn't want to stop there and came up with the idea of adding a "quilt" and turning the whole thing into a mug rug. Because what quilter wants to leave quilting behind when it is teatime? Not this one! Choosing the thread first and then the scraps to coordinate with the colors in the thread is the best way to be sure you get the effect of the thread "quilting" the "quilt" portion of the mug rug. I made the two pictured mug rugs for swap partners during my "Two for Teal" mug rug swap in September 2014. I can't wait to use some of my other variegated threads as inspiration for more of these!

EvaPaige Quilt Designs

My design style is one of "fun over fuss", and I unapologetically preach the gospel of "Perfection is Overrated" through my trunk show. Quilting isn't mean to be hard or frustrating, and with every pattern I try to help the user focus on enjoying the creative process rather than becoming annoyed by too many matching points and seams. Many of these designs feature forgiving and creative piecing techniques; others of my designs feature whimsical machine applique on pieced backgrounds. I tend to shy away from trends; I design what I love and have a hard time conforming to what's hot in the quilting world. Since 2005, I have published 20 patterns as well as authored "Once Upon a Time: Fairy Tale Puzzle Quilts", an 80 page book focusing on machine applique and embellishment techniques using blocks centered around a princess theme, available from Quiltwoman.com. My complete line of patterns can be viewed on my website, http://www.evapaigequiltdesigns.com/. I am a founding member of New England Quilt Designers Cooperative, a consortium of six designers from all over New England who have joined together for purposes of vending and cross marketing. We were thrilled to have an article about us in the April/May 2011 issue of Quilter's World magazine! On a more personal note, my husband and I have three young daughters, twins Eva and Paige, my mini-mes and company namesakes, and Greta, who will likely be in therapy because her name only appears on a pattern, not as part of the true EPQD empire. We live in a pretty town northwest of Boston MA where you don't even need a clear day to see New Hampshire, where all five of us pretty much live our lives covered in thread scraps.
