This pattern lends itself to many design options. It's wonderful with neutrals, brights, or any color scheme. Use novelty prints in the centers to create theme quilts (holiday, juvenile, sports, baby). The key to a successful color scheme is selecting fabrics that are contrasting, so the design stands out, yet harmonious, so the fabrics work together. The light and dark perimeters have two fabric that are seamed in several places, so choose textures, tone-on-tones, or small overall prints.
Christie Batterman has a passion for sewing inspired by a lifelong love of fabric and art. As a teenager she began to make her own clothes, and continued to sew while in college, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Upon entering the corporate world, she traded her sewing machine for a computer, as her career took an unplanned turn into the technical field. It was a successful journey over many years in software applications development, beginning in programming and culminating in senior management at Visa International.
In 2003, Christie said good-by to corporate America to pursue her passion for quilting. She started teaching classes and developing original designs. Her work was featured in three books from C&T Publishing and she launched her own pattern company "Artichoke Collection," which features contemporary designs using simple techniques. Christie lives with her husband in the San Francisco area. Visit her website www.artichokecollection.com.
