Way back in the early eighties we played a game called Chinese Jacks. Everyone had a set of jacks - customized in your favorite colors, of course - and if we had five free minutes we plopped down on the floor wherever we were and played a few rounds. Chinese Jacks was an American version of a very old game called Five Stones (or Knucklebones, or Jackstones, or a kajillion other variations). You can find some "official" rules online. Part of the fun of Chinese Jacks was making your own set of jacks, in your own favorite color combinations. Five Stones is also a game where you can (and should) make your own set. It's easy and pretty fast. The pattern has links to free video tutorials teaching you all the skills you'll need to make this project. Use scrap fabric and a bit of rice; sew by hand or on a machine. You can make a set in an hour or so - and then it's time to play! All Shiny Happy World patterns come with full-sized pattern pieces and complete instructions with loads of step-by-step photos. Patterns also include links to free video tutorials teaching you every skill you'll need to complete the project.

My name is Wendi Gratz. I hope you see something here that makes you smile! I spent over twenty years working in the children's book industry and the experience has left its mark on me - all my favorite artists are children's book illustrators, I believe people are basically good, and I can't abide beige. All of my patterns include links to free online videos that will teach you every technique you need to know to complete the project. Happy stitching!
