Tansy and Thistle are cloth elves riding cloth birds. Display them hanging with clear fishing line or nestle the bird on a shelf. The dolls are sewn to the birds. Tansy and Thistle have needle sculpted noses and painted faces. Their hair is made from a scrap of fake fur. Their legs are sewn so they are bent. The clothing is sewn to their bodies and they have cute hats that are easy to make. The birds have a wing span of 15". The tail and wings have wire in them. The legs are made using chenille stems and are not firm enough for the bird to stand on them. You can leave them off if you prefer. There is also a pattern for a tote that can go around the bird's neck or the dolls can wear it on a shoulder. I added a tuft of feather to the top of the head. The eyes are beads and the bills are painted. Quilter's quarters are perfect for making the dolls and birds. Use small prints for the doll's clothing. For the birds, I used large prints. Tansy's blue bird is made from a blue Bali batik while Thistle's bird is made from a feather print fabric. There are many great prints that can be used to make the birds.

Heisler's Creative Stitchery

I've been designing patterns since the 1980's and have had many printed in various craft magazines. Not all of my patterns have been turned into PDF so I hope you'll have a look at my web site to see the rest of them. A note about my PDF patterns. Some are different from the printed ones I sell. Some pictures and drawings were removed to make the pdf sizes smaller.
