Caer is an original Celtic knot design suitable for all kinds of hand embroidery and is design #3 of the Legend of Merlin series created by Scarlett Rose. Learn the twilling stitch, the latest embroidery craze since candlewicking! Or choose your favorite embroidery stitch, such as the stem stitch or back stitch, for stitching this beautiful Celtic knot. Caer can also be Sashiko stitched! The pattern includes step by step instructions and pictures on how to do the twilling stitch, a textured looking knotted embroidery stitch used in the sample block shown here. The step-by-step pictures show how to make this knotted stitch for right or left handed stitchers. The sample was stitched in #5 pearl cotton thread to clearly show the details of the Celtic knotwork. Choose your own colors and/or combination of colors for your own project. Use embroidery floss, pearl cotton thread or any other embroidery thread, depending on the embroidery stitch you want to use. This full size 8 inch Celtic knot may be enlarged or reduced as needed to fit different projects. When adding beads while doing the twilling stitch with #5 pearl cotton thread, leave a space equal to one knot before starting the next knot so that the bead will be nestled against the background fabric. Please visit the Embroidery Gallery (link in the pattern) to see stitched samples of all of Scarlett's embroidery designs.
